Norma Torres… A History of Serving our Community
In her first term in the Assembly, Norma earned the following awards:
- CA State Sheriffs Association Outstanding Legislator of the Year 2009 (2009)
- Yellow Ribbon America & the American Heroes Foundation Ouststanding Support of our Troops (2009)
- “Making a Difference Award,” Mt. Zion Baptist Church Black History & Volunteers Committee (2010)

In Her First Term in the Assembly, Norma Torres fought to:
- Keep sex offenders away from schools
- Improve the state’s 911 system
- Increase penalties for identity theft and computer hacking
- Help local governments recoup the cost of graffiti removal
Keeping in touch
Through her “Capitol in Your Corner” program, Norma has been able to keep in touch with the needs of voters throughout the district.

As Councilmember and Mayor of Pomona, Norma:
- Passed state’s first ordinance preventing sex offenders from living in large group homes near schools and businesses
- Restored lost firefighter positions
- Led efforts to limit gang activities and undermine their influence in high-crime neighborhoods.
- Worked to bring new businesses and jobs to the city
- Led neighborhood clean-up, home repair and improvement programs
Norma Torres... Continuing the Fight for Our Communities
In her second term in office, Norma wants to continue the fight to:
- Protect our families, neighborhoods, schools and businesses
- Create jobs and revitalize our local economy
- Renew our state’s commitment to education, from preschool through higher ed
- Balance our state budget and hold the line against tax increases
