Assemblywoman Norma Torres, D-Ontario, is seeking teens to serve on the 61st Assembly District Youth Advisory Committee.
Members of the soon-to-be-established committee will give Torres their opinions on youth related issues and learn about the state's legislative process and public service, her office announced this week.
Committee members will meet regularly to discuss issues affecting young people, according to a statement from Torres' office.
Participating committee members will also be afforded the opportunity to take part in community events, carry out a community service project and volunteer in the Torres' district office.
When students complete their service on the committee they will have a chance to travel to Sacramento, at no cost to the teens, to attend activities at the Capitol and be recognized for their work, the statement said.
To be eligible for a spot on the committee, applicants must be high school juniors living and attending a school in Torres' district, which encompasses Chino, Montclair, Ontario and Pomona.
Applicants must also commit to attend meetings regularly, the statement said.
A committee will review the applications and invite teens to take part in an interview process.
Torres will make the final selections, the statement said.
Applications are available through the Assemblywoman's district office.
